Letter from Eileen Bostwick
Kudos to the Senior Center
To the editor:
I want to acknowledge the staff at Ukiah Senior Center who arrange and provide transportation for disabled older adults in our community.
I am a member of the Senior Center but have not utilized services offered until February of this year. After a fall on black ice in December I suffered a compression fracture of my left knee and after surgery was immobilized. When I was finally able to bear weight on my left leg, I had lost a lot of muscle strength and required physical therapy. I was unable to drive and was totally dependent on others to help me get to appointments.
I knew the senior Center had a transportation program so I called and was pleased to learn how easy it was to access the program. The ladies who arrange transportation and schedule it are cheerful, professional and courteous. Mike and Terry, two of the drivers are upbeat, positive, attentive to my safety, courteous and professional. The wan is clean and in good repair. Over the course of several months, I used this service to get to a variety of medical appointments. With one exception the service was on time.
There is a cost for this service, $2.50 each way or $5.00 round trip. It is worth every cent when you are unable to get around on your own. Ukiah is fortunate to have a service of this caliber to get people to important appointments on time. Kudos to the staff at the Ukiah Senior Center.
