William Carter - On May 7, 2003 Mr. Carter passed away and left his entire estate to the Mendocino Community Foundation in support of the Ukiah Senior Center. The estate was valued at just over $1 million dollars! Mr. Carter was a gentleman who attended the dances at the Center in the 1980's. He saw the importance of having an organization that focused on providing a social gathering place for seniors. Mr. Carter had a plan to leave a legacy of support to help the Center that he had so often frequented. By leaving his estate to the Mendocino Community Foundation to safeguard and invest, he ensured the Ukiah Senior Center would have a stream of funding for years to come. From 2003 through 2014, the Center has received over $300,000 in interest earnings from the investments. And because this is a lifelong legacy, the principal has not been touched!
